About The Domain

For decades The Domain has been Sydney’s big open-air space in the city, used for free summer concerts, rallies and festivals. It now hosts Field Day each New Year’s Day, which returns on 1 January 2027, and in February 2027 it becomes Calvin Harris’s base for five consecutive nights from 20 to 24 February. Its location on the edge of the CBD is the main draw: you can walk in from offices and hotels, and walk out afterwards to Woolloomooloo, Kings Cross or the city.

Getting to The Domain

The Domain is the open parkland between the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Royal Botanic Garden and Macquarie Street. St James and Martin Place stations are 5–10 minutes’ walk away, and Circular Quay is about 15 minutes. Expect road closures nearby on big event days. For late finishes, walk towards Town Hall or Central for wider train options. Extra trains and event buses are sometimes added for the biggest days, so check the Transport for NSW trip planner on the day.

Tips for a show at The Domain

There is almost no shade on a summer afternoon: sunscreen, a hat and water matter. Check each event’s conditions for what you can bring. The grass can be soft after rain, so wear closed shoes. Food and drink are usually sold inside the site, and outside alcohol is typically not allowed.
