Sydney’s festival year starts on New Year’s Day and keeps a steady pace through the summer, with most outdoor events in the city’s big parks: The Domain on the edge of the CBD and Centennial Park in the eastern suburbs, where a long-standing cap on the number of large concerts each year was lifted in 2025. Winter belongs to Vivid Sydney. Below is each festival we could verify as active, with its 2027 status as of 9 October 2026. Where dates are not yet announced, we say so rather than guess, and our alert will tell you when they are.
Field Day
Field Day has become Sydney’s New Year’s Day ritual in The Domain. The 2027 edition is billed as entirely dance music across three stages, with Major Lazer at the top of the poster, plus Sub Focus, Andy C, Elderbrook, Boys Noize and Hannah Laing among the names announced by early September 2026. A second headline slot was still listed as a mystery at that point. One stage, the Casamigos Camp Ground, is curated by the LGBTQIA+ community. Expect a hot day with little shade, and crowded trains from St James and Martin Place afterwards.
Sydney Festival
Sydney Festival is the city’s big summer arts festival, filling theatres, parks, harbour sites and the Opera House with music, theatre, dance and free outdoor events for around three weeks every January. Its music program typically mixes international acts with Australian and First Nations artists, often in unusual settings. When we checked on 9 October 2026 the official 2027 program had not been released, and we have not confirmed the exact dates.
Laneway Festival
Laneway’s 22nd edition opens its 2027 run in Sydney, on Friday 12 February at Centennial Park, before moving on to Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland. The Sydney show is 16+. Fontaines D.C. and Hayley Williams lead a lineup that also includes Kim Petras, MUNA, Slayyyter, ADÉLA, Ninajirachi, Rico Nasty, DIIV and Rachel Chinouriri. A Friday date means many people come straight from work, so plan the trip to Centennial Park by bus or light rail in advance.
Sydney Summertime
Sydney Summertime is a new series of standalone outdoor concerts in Centennial Park, launched for summer 2027. The first headliner is The Strokes on Saturday 20 February 2027, on their Reality Awaits tour, with Beck, Courtney Barnett and Promiseland also on the bill. The organisers describe a mix of ticket tiers and food and drink from Sydney restaurants, bars and wineries. As of 9 October 2026 no other Summertime shows had been announced; we will add them as they are confirmed.
Vivid Sydney
Vivid Sydney is the city’s winter festival of light, music and ideas, running over 23 days and nights from 28 May to 19 June 2027. Light installations and projections cover Circular Quay, the Opera House sails and other precincts and are free to walk around. The music side, which has included the Vivid LIVE program at the Opera House, is mostly ticketed; the 2027 music lineup had not been announced as of 9 October 2026. Expect very busy trains and ferries around Circular Quay on weekend evenings.
Listen Out
Listen Out is a touring one-day festival focused on hip-hop, R&B and electronic acts, and its Sydney edition has made Centennial Park its home. It usually takes place at the start of spring. The 2027 date, site and lineup had not been published when we checked on 9 October 2026. Like other Centennial Park events, it is reached by bus or by light rail to Moore Park, followed by a walk through the park.
Ultra Australia
Ultra Australia has visited Sydney in past years, but Sydney has not been on its recent Australian runs. The 2026 edition took place in Melbourne and on the Gold Coast, and as of 9 October 2026 there was no announcement of a Sydney return in 2027. We list it here because many readers ask; if a Sydney date is announced, we will add it to the calendar and to the alert.
