A long-running standing venue in the heart of the city, the Metro is a regular stop for punk, metal, hip-hop and indie acts on their way up, and for established bands playing a club-sized show. Its 2027 dates on our list are Teenage Bottlerocket with Brendan Kelly, Sleep Theory and Winterbourne, all in February. It is one of the few mid-sized standing rooms left in the CBD itself, which makes it an easy after-work show. Age limits vary by promoter, so check whether a show is all-ages or 18+.
Metro Theatre: getting there and back
The Metro is on George Street just south of Town Hall. Town Hall station and Gadigal metro station are a couple of minutes’ walk, the L2 and L3 light rail stop at Town Hall almost at the door, and Central is about 15 minutes on foot. With trains and light rail this close, there is no reason to drive. After the show, George Street has late buses, and Central is the main hub for NightRide services once trains stop.
Before your Metro Theatre concert
The room is compact, so the view is decent from most of the floor. Haymarket and Chinatown are minutes away for a late meal, and George Street stays busy after shows. Arrive at door time if you want to see the support acts, as club venues often run to a tight curfew.
