Searching for Midnight Oil Sydney 2027? The honest answer is that no such show exists. Sydney was where the band said goodbye to the stage, with a marathon final concert in October 2022, and drummer Rob Hirst's death in January 2026 closed the door further. Below: the verified status, the band's deep Sydney roots, and how to be told if anything new is ever announced.
Midnight Oil Sydney 2027: the verified status
No Sydney concert by Midnight Oil is on sale or announced for 2027. The band's 2022 Australian dates, promoted as Resist: The Final Tour, were confirmed at the time as the group's last tour. The musicians left the door open only to recording together, not to further road work.
Since then, the most significant news has been sad rather than musical. Founding drummer Rob Hirst, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2023, died on 20 January 2026 at the age of 70. Before his death he kept releasing music with fellow Oils guitarist Jim Moginie, including the Red Continent EP in 2023. No plan for Midnight Oil concerts has been made public in 2026, and we see no basis to expect one in 2027. Anyone selling seats for a Sydney date is not selling an official event.
Midnight Oil Sydney 2027: a Sydney band's last night
Midnight Oil came out of Sydney's northern beaches scene in the 1970s, and the city was always home turf. Some of its biggest nights happened here: the band played the Sydney Cricket Ground for the WaveAid tsunami benefit in 2005 and again for Sound Relief in 2009, and drew a huge crowd to the Domain in November 2017 during its comeback world tour.
The story then came full circle at the Hordern Pavilion on 3 October 2022. That night closed the farewell tour with a 40-song set lasting roughly three and a half hours, one of the longest shows of the band's career. Fans who were there saw what was billed as the final Midnight Oil concert, and nothing announced since has changed that. The 2024 film Midnight Oil: The Hardest Line documents that journey.
